I have served with many different organizations in various capacities: a Community Educator with Family Abuse Services, a Sexual Assault Response Coordinator with Crossroads Sexual Assault Resource and Response Center, a Forensic Interviewer for the law practice of Craig T. Thompson and currently a Leader of Celebrate Recovery for addiction. I was elected to the ABSS Board of Education 2012-2020 and the Alamance County Commissioners 2020-2024. I have been appointed to many Boards and Commissions at the local and state level: Alamance County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council, Alamance County Justice Advisory Council, Alamance County Crime Stoppers, Alamance County DSS, ABSS Liaison, Piedmomt Triad Regional Council Executive Board, NC Domestic Violence Commission (2013-2019), NC Child Fatality Task Force (2015-2021), and the NC Governor’s Crime Commission (2018-2024). These experiences have created the fight in me to make a difference as your County Commissioner.

I wanted to strengthen Veterans Services, create a tiny home village and service center for homeless veterans, development of Recovery Court for serious treatment programs and services for victims of Addiction, advocate for ABSS children by strengthening our Recreation and Parks after school programs, making sure teacher supplement remains strong and top notch facilities to work and learn in.
-
ABSS teacher supplement must be consistent and competitive, ABSS facilities MUST be of the highest standards for which I have been a tremendous support for, fentanyl awareness and vaping programs in ALL ABSS schools, treating our Recreation and Parks as a truly equal county department for the stronger and healthier community they can create, and always being just a phone call away for any citizen that needs me.

drug addiction/overdose crisis, ABSS facilities and teacher supplement , better funding for Recreation and Parks (healthier lifestyles build healthier families which build healthier communities).

I have felt and stated many times, the 2023 reval was not properly conducted concerning evaluating the commercial property of Alamance County. Getting that corrected will certainly allow us to see the real revenue we actually have in Alamance County. The residence, you and I, can not carry the entire county with all of its needs. Our commercial and industrial partners must be in line and balanced with all of the tax payers. I sincerely feel if this is done correctly, there will be more than enough revenue to truly maintain, FINALLY, the needs in our schools. I have said many times band-aides do NOT work for the future. With budgeting in Alamance County, ALL departments have specific needs and not ONE particular department should benefit more so than others. We are a team county wide and we need to run like one. We have to do a better job at securing grants for new and innovative projects. We don't want to constantly wear out the pockets of our citizens who are struggling already.

I am a supporter of zoning that works for Alamance County. Not some copy and paste version of another county. We are unique in the fact of where we are located adjacent to some big budget and major developed counties. We will need to keep a healthy balance with planning and development because when you grow, everything grows and you must be lead with vision. More people means more children and the need to build additional schools, more crime, more first responders, more infrastructure-water/sewer, more housing developments, etc. We are already chasing a rabbit with schools, capacity and keeping the balance.

Focus and absolutely no pride and power plays....Elected officials all have different responsibilities and those officials must know theirs. Far too long it has been a power struggle and when this happens the very ones you are to support can get lost. There is NO school without kids and teachers. Without kids and teachers there is NO future. Some... seriously need to take that as fact and not about winning an election.

I have solid relationships with my representatives in our state and federal governments. Serving on the NC Domestic Violence Commission for six years, I have always supported Family Abuse Services and Crossroads for local funding in the county budget. I am also a former employee of both agencies. I recently served on the NC Child Fatality Task Force for six years. I was on the Intentional Deaths Committee (homicide and suicide under 18 years of age). I was on the DSS Board my first year as a Commissioner in 2021 and knew the stats of child abuse (as well as other types of abuse) and pushed for better funding with social workers which are always at a shortage. I am serving my fourth year on the NC Governor's Crime Commissioner and am on the Crime Victims Services Committee which scores statewide grants. I am in constant communication with our agencies and law enforcement about possible grants and what is coming. Federal Funding is decreasing and I will be advocating for higher funding for our local agencies that care for the victims of Alamance County. I am a strong advocate for our nonprofits because I know the amazing work they do and the crucial roll they play for our citizens.
Something to think about....I would like to see the municipalities be more involved with the schools within their districts. I know we have a county wide ABSS system, the county puts in millions, however, something as simple as landscaping for their city schools or even a Teacher Appreciation Special event could demonstrate that ALL of the county is totally bought in for our kids and teachers.

My phone never stops ringing and I hope it never does. You never have to come to me, I will always come to you. A public servant must constantly be building trust with those they serve.

When there is a citizens issue, I meet with them, go to the location of concern, take pictures and get their story. Then I pull in the proper professionals who can make the difference. I will encourage them to come make a public comment and bring everyone with them who feel the same. Your voice is your power. I have NO problem being the lone vote when I have heard from folks and I believe in my heart it is NOT fair nor balanced for the citizens in our county.
For example. There was a young woman who lived beside a horrendous hoarding nightmare (washing machines, stoves, camper shells, old cars, trash bags neck high, refridgerators, etc.) on Barbee Street directly behind Glen Raven Mills on Webb Avenue. She had contacted county officials for nearly a year and nothing. She was suggested to contact me once I got sworn in. I spoke with her and went to the site. It was something like you would see on a hoarding tv show. I have pictures if you would like to see them. I spoke with county officials and things became slow... so...I asked the City Manager of Burlington, County manager, Health Department Director, County Attorney and law enforcement to meet me on site. We all spoke to the owner and offered assistance. It was very obvious she was in over her head with a bed ridden mother she was caring for and a wayward son who was recently out of prison. It took over two years with clean up, dumpsters, no trespassing court orders, the son firing a gun on site, raw sewage being dumped into the adjacent creek, more court, more jail, and finally forecloser. Sadly the elderly mother was moved to a facility and later passed away. Just to add, the young woman who had originally called me, trapped over 100 feral cats and told me she could not let her kids play in HER own yard by themselves because rats as big as rabbits would come across into her yard from the site and attack her chickens she had in a fenced in area. It may have seemed to take forever, but you never quit a citizen when they need your help.
