Seneca Rogers

  • Seneca Rogers, lifelong resident of Alamance County.

I am a proud graduate of Cummings High School in 1998 and North Carolina A&T State University (AGGIE PRIDE) in 2002 earning a BA in Political Science (Magna Cum Laude). My wife Shekitha and I have been married 15 years. We do not have any children, but our lives are filled with the presence of our Nephew, Niece, and God Son. Currently, I am employed with LabCorp, where I am a Reimbursement Analyst in Third Party Analysis. I have been with LabCorp for 17 years. My wife and I are both active members of Arches Grove United Church of Christ.

Throughout the years, I have volunteered as a track coach at Cummings, being a public education advocate, also doing various things in the community and lending my voice to concerns we all face, especially in East Burlington. I ran a campaign in 2020 and 2022 for school board where I came up short but was able to lift the voices of “The Neighborhood”!

Most recently, I have been appointed to the Alamance-Burlington Board of Education, a graduate of the United Citizens Police Academy and a Mentor in the Kings Academy at North Park. Also, as a member of Future Alamance, I have been involved in Back-to-School Backpack Giveaways, Thanksgiving Dinner Giveaways for the community, Christmas Cheer, voter registration events, and other community engagements opportunities. Previously, I was one of the Co-Leads for our Black Employee Resource Group (PULSE) at LabCorp, on the selection committee of the Alamance Forward Project with Latinx Ed. I helped with organizing a Youth Summit at Positive Attitude Youth Center. Also, I attend various meetings with Alamance Achieves and Impact Alamance on subjects dealing with our schools and community, i.e.: Empowering Families and Harwood Community Conversations. I attend PTO meetings at our schools to see how I can support their efforts and hear from those parents. I regularly attend sporting events for all of schools to give updates on my social media pages. I continue to work on community policing measures by meeting with local law enforcement about their practices & ways they can do things better, look for more ways to uplift and motivate our next generation, and will put in work to lift the voices of the minority and underrepresented communities. We are the Neighborhood!

  • I have run now three times for ABSS Board of Education, and my motivation has been to be a voice for those who feel left out. I want to work to be a part of the solution to create multiple pathways to success for our students, to be an advocate for public education, to listen to our educators and advocate for them. It is the opportunity to represent the school system that I graduated from and to be of service to the community I grew up in. We have an opportunity to invest in an amazing future for our young people. I want to show what a successful school system can do when the community wraps their arms around it and get involved together.

  • Three of my highest priorities are to provide a safe and healthy environment for our students and staff, making sure that we have a clean facilities, security camera/alarms, automatic locked doors, athletic trainers and clear safety plans. Also, enhancing teacher and staff support, we can do this with better pay, increase hiring in support services and professional development opportunities at all levels. We need to prioritize addressing infrastructure and maintenance, continue the work that has started with roofing & HVAC, then looking at prevention before issues arise and making sure we to stay update on the most effective programs in technology.

  • In thinking about preparing our students for the future, I would implement some of the following strategies: Personalized learning-try to tailor education to individual student's needs, interest and being flexible in the learning pathways. Teacher Support and Development-ongoing training, resources for teachers to enhance their skills and stay updated on best practices. Community Partnerships-make sure to foster collaboration with local businesses, organizations to provide real-world leaning experiences. CTE Learning-continue to grow and keep a diverse offering of programs and apprenticeships for those in-demand careers in the workforce. Parent and Family involvement-encourage our families to be active, volunteer in our schools and school-based organizations with regular communications. Early Childhood Education access-advocate to expand this access for high-quality early childhood programs with focuses on literacy and social-emotional development.

  • I would like to approach these issues with identifying areas requiring investment and prioritize based on urgency and impact. We must with our goals and objectives are clearly. Ensure that that we are transparent throughout the process. We can explore alternative funding sources like grants, partnerships and other innovative funding methods. I would want to monitor our spending and adjust where needed for allocations. I want to keep an eye to the future by balancing short-term needs with a long-term strategy. It is great to use data to inform us of budget and resource allocation decisions.

  • I think what is required in the relationship between the ABSS Board and the County Commissioners is coming together with a clear view of collaboration and knowing that our community wants us to work together for the benefit of our schools. We do not need to be there with any political or personal agendas, know that we can disagree along the way while still staying in a place of working together. It must be clear communication and keeping updated with each other on things happening and needs.

  • I would like to accomplish this through multiple ways, having community public forums during the school year, creating a student advisory board, continuing the efforts of PTOs or Family Led Organizations in all of our schools, use of surveys and other feedback mechanisms, support bilingual and multilingual communication, foster a culture of inclusivity and respect, have some listening sessions, and ensure that any committees or task force are diverse.

  • I would address this by making sure we are taking a proactive and strategic approach. We have a Captial Improvement Plan with PayGO plans, must make sure we are following it in a timely manner while also looking at any adjustments along the way. Exploring those alternative means for funding mechanisms. I would want to see data around growth trends and opportunities to see where we might need to look at new school buildings and expansion of currently facilities. We need to conduct feasibility studies and make sure our strategic plan is really future focused and not just words on a paper. Lastly, having a growth management plan in place with clear views to any new information on our county.

  • My leadership has been my time currently on the board of education showing how I am a listening ear and willing to work with all folks to get to the best solutions for our school district. I am a mentor in the community with young people to help them coming up in life to provide them with my life experience knowledge. I feel that my short time on the board has shown that I am not a person that approaches this role with a view through a lens of politics, but truly with the view of our people being first and making sure our students know that I care for all of them. That in the middle of the chaos this year I stayed calm and into the character of who I am to continue to advocate for everyone in our school system and community.
