  • Tameka is a fierce advocate who is running for the Alamance Board of Education. As a parent of three and a lifelong resident of Alamance County, she is passionate about making a positive impact in her community. She has spent the last 8 years or more on different school advisory boards. Tameka finished school in 1999 and has since then gained extensive experience as a customer service manager in numerous local businesses. She is a highly capable and determined individual, committed to bringing about real change in the education system. Remember Tameka as a strong and effective leader who will fight for the best interests of the community, teachers, and students.

  • I have been actively involved in the schools, and I have also been a part of many advisory boards. I've made an effort to stay informed about what's happening inside our schools. I owe a lot to Seneca Rogers for encouraging me to attend meetings and understand the decision-making processes. It was an eye-opening experience that made me realize that decisions often do not consider the perspectives of all students. It's important to also have individuals with children inside the schools involved in decision-making to ensure that it's inclusive and fair for everyone.

  • To adequately equip our students for the challenges of the future, we must offer work-based learning opportunities within our community. Additionally, we must remain cognizant of the evolving landscape of technology and ensure that our educational offerings align with the demands of the future. It is paramount that we steadfastly advocate for the preservation of our Career and Technical Education (CTE), which plays a pivotal role in preparing students for the future in diverse and impactful ways, with some programs even facilitating certification upon completion.

  • Prioritize understanding the district's established objectives, assessing previous expenditures, and ensuring that future spending requirements are duly considered throughout the process.

  • It is essential to show respect for each person's position and work towards finding solutions, even when we have differing opinions. By finding common ground, we can collaborate effectively. County Commissioners must demonstrate a willingness to collaborate with the School Board.

  • It is imperative to establish meaningful connections with students and their families, while also devising impactful strategies for parental engagement. Oftentimes, crucial perspectives are overlooked when decisions are made on behalf of our students. It is vital that we actively involve everyone in the decision-making process.

  • We must maintain a proactive approach to managing our facilities. This means entrusting capable individuals with the responsibility of prioritizing tasks, completing them efficiently, and addressing any issues without delay. Waiting for something to break before taking action is not an option.

  • By taking lead for the Cummings HS Athletic boosters provided an opportunity for me to keep the organization operational.  Due to unforeseen circumstances we were on the verge of not having an athletic boosters program for Cummings HS.   Since I understand how athletics can positively impact students, school and the community, I assumed the responsibility for the program.

Just a small part of my responsibilities include the budgeting and stocking of the concession stands.  Coordinating volunteers and ensuring that the Cummings student athletes are taken care of.  By providing this support to the student athletes I am ensuring they have proper safety equipment, uniforms and have a meal prior to their games.  The school benefits through having activities that are well maintained to ensure our students have an opportunity to participate within a team environment and to positively impact their school and community.  Our community has benefited greatly from our athletics in that it provides a sense of belonging and pride.  Since assuming leadership within the CHS boosters I have been able to manage individuals, budget for needs and wants, coordinate within time frames  and troubleshoot problems that may occur.  Leadership has always been a calling for me and I am proud to be able to demonstrate my leadership abilities for the Cummings Athletic Boosters.
